The stories in this book represent one of the great migrations in HIAS\u2019 history: the resettlement of hundreds of thousands of Jews from the former Soviet Union to become part of the North American Jewish community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this book, you will find 30 stories (plus one poem) that were posted on myStory. These selections demonstrate humor, poignancy, realism, and dreams, seen through the lens of those who\u2014for the sake of their own families and future generations\u2014left everything behind to begin anew in freedom and hope. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

HIAS started as an organization that helped to resettle Jewish refugees facing persecution and pogroms in Eastern Europe. They have expanded to help all refugees across the world.
